Meet Beth Knaus – Owner of That’s A Spade

Rock Star feature - Beth Knaus - That's A Spade - Website Designs By Lisa My memory of when Beth and I first met is not entirely clear but it feels like I’ve known her forever.  She was an inspiration and offered great support to me when I first started my business.  Still does.

She is the type of person you are drawn to, simply by her calm demeanor, the way she intently listens to you and just her overall aura.  So, when I asked her if I could feature her as my Rock Star in my November newsletter, I was happy she said yes.

Who is this awesome person anyway?  Beth is a copywriter and a damn good one. She has always loved writing and felt she could help entrepreneurs through clear and relatable storytelling that engages clients.  With me being a website designer, messaging is a very important part of your website and working with someone like Beth to get your messaging out there that is unique to you and your business, will make a world of difference.

One of my questions to Beth was about her future and where she saw her business.  As a copywriter and with AI out there and everywhere, I was curious about her answer.  Beth said, “I’m seeing a separation between those who rely mainly on technology for their communication – usually larger companies, and those who understand the value of being individual, personal, and professional in their content. Showing up as a genuine human is priceless.”

Don’t you just love that!  I’m not a fan of AI as I don’t trust it.  Additionally, if you want to be true to yourself and your business, leave the technology out of it.  Working with Beth is the way to go.

“My job as the writer is to represent my client’s voice in their content, and also write with that voice in a way that their target client needs to receive it and take action.”, Beth tells me.

Additionally, Beth tends to work with clients who are confident female entrepreneurs who have been in business for a year or two and have a more specific idea of who they want to serve and how they want to serve them. They are tired of saying general and surface things and are ready to dig deeper and represent what makes them different.

Beth also told me a few things on a personal level.

  • I love me some good, old-fashioned snark

  • I always preferred the B-sides of records

  • I question the status quo

  • Being a contrarian and a respectful non-conformist are some of my greatest strengths

  • Cold water and its activities are not my friends. I prefer a lazy river over white water rafting and love 80-degree pool water.

Now a partial empty nester, she lives in Norwood, MA with her awesome husband. She has three adult children who are superb humans. In her free time, she loves to read, travel, hang in the city, cook, eat excellent food, and laugh. A lot.

Talking with Beth is the best way to get to know her.  You can contact her a few different ways.
